The 2023 Taiwan Design Expo is held in New Taipei City, with the main exhibition area centered around the New Taipei City Art Museum. The exhibition showcases various aspects of New Taipei City, including nature, sustainability, and youth. The "Bold" exhibition explores the city's urban spirit at its finest.

Experience Approach Inspired by the City's Character
New Taipei City’s aesthetic style and culture are highly diverse. Therefore, in the design of the exhibition experience, we sought to reflect the city’s unique character, presenting its raw, vibrant texture through visuals, sound, and content. This city has been the stage for many bold and fearless artistic actions, where much of the creative energy of rejection, resistance, and explosion has emerged. In the main visual presentation, we aimed to break away from the conventional imagery of "power" and the typical flat graphic design concept. By using various promotional materials and textures, we created a collage on the walls, symbolizing the convergence of diverse ideas. Techniques like tearing, layering, painting, and scraping were employed to represent the marks left by these ideas transforming into power, shaping the New Taipei City of today.

After traversing historical narratives, we delve into the diverse contexts that have nurtured boldness in New Taipei City. Following two months of desk research and interviews, the team categorized the city into four perspectives: "Water and Tradition" "Metropolis and Identity" "Life and Humanities" and "Mountains and Nature."
Each perspective features one or two creators, either rooted in or based in New Taipei, who use their social position and actions as a form of advocacy. Through in-depth interviews with these creators, we uncover their thought processes, life experiences, and connections to the city, revealing their questions and reflections on the world.

In This City, Courage is Freedom
"The Bold" focuses on contemporary New Taipei, exploring the soil of the city that nurtures a spirit of freedom and defiance. Though the forms and methods vary, they all share subtle forces that strive to break the constraints of time, life, culture, systems, and identity. If design is about exploring the relationship between form and content, then the spirit of "Breaking Boundaries" is also a kind of design—every attempt, every exception, every act of resistance is a process of designing an ideal world. And this process can happen in our everyday lives. What defines New Taipei? It is a city without a typical lifestyle or collective image, making it a place that embraces attempts, exceptions, and resistance. Various aspirations for freedom may all find their realization here. The exhibition is divided into two sections: "The Practice of Boldness" and "The Spirit of Boldness." "The Practice of Boldness" starts from four unique geographical and cultural features of New Taipei, showcasing how different forms of boldness emerge from individual actions within the city. "The Spirit of Boldness" invites viewers to reflect on the core values through storytelling.
